About Us

Founded in 1911 by German emigrants, the Arion Singing Society has promoted and perpetuated years of  German singing, dancing, music, language and culture for its members and guests.  The Arion is a member of the Connecticut Saengerbund (German American Singing Societies of New England with 15 organizations as members).  We are proud of our organization and have members who have been part of the society for over 50 years.   The Arion Singing Society is located on Route 7 in New Milford.

The Arion Singing Society is a private membership club. We welcome membership applications from all persons of good will.

REHEARSALS begin on the second Wednesday in September and continue until the end of June.  We welcome new singers and meet at 7,00 p.m.  Beginning with the first rehearsal of the season, singers prepare for the Christmas holiday season, the annual Spring Concert and the Saengerfest.  Singers also entertain residents in nursing homes.

DINNER DANCES offer live music and dinner with desert, prepared by a master chef.  Beverages and set-ups are included.

THE GERMAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL in Danbury also operates under the Arion Singing Society's umbrella.

NEW MILFORD HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP FUND-The Arion Singing Society awards a monetary prize to a New Milford High School student who is studying German language and culture.

SUMMERFEST/SAENGERFEST-the Arion singers take part in the annual competition of the Connecticut Saengerbund.  Choruses compete in 2 divisions and 3 categories: Men, Ladies, and Mixed.  The Arion has done very well over the years as the many trophies can attest.    This event is held at High Meadow Resort in Granby, CT.

THE ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST is held on the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend.  It has become a favorite spot for more and more individuals who enjoy good German food, beverage, and entertainment.

THE STEUBEN DAY PARADE is an annual event that takes place on New York's 5th Avenue every September.  Every year, members of the Arion look forward to participating in this exciting and fun parade.

GERMAN AMERICAN DAY CELEBRATION, held in October at the Aqua Turf in Southington, CT, is an elegant annual event in which the Arion Singing Society participates with other German American organizations.  This event is also attended by the German American Ambassador, members of our State Government, and other dignitaries.

THE CHRISTKINDL MARKT (Christmas Bazaar) highlights our very talented group of metal, wood, and needleworkers and seamstresses who spend hours crafting decorative gift items.  And, there are the delicious baked goods, made according to traditional German recipes.
